Art-Tober 2023

Featuring Peachtober prompts from FurryLittlePeach

  1. Bee

This is a Bar-bee. A fancy pink bee that loves fashion and being iconic. I was playing around with patterned backgrounds.

2. Cosmic

I love soup more than any other food, so I drew some cosmic soup. I’m really proud of the texture and colors of the cosmic soup.

3. Sweet

I just went for all the sweets having a party on a cake. Tried more pastel-like textures and color pallet for this one.

4. Grub

My favorite animal is frogs, so I wanted to draw a frog looking at all sorts of tasty bug grubs. Played with pastel-like texture again but not sure I really love it.

5. Sprig

I don’t often draw humans or “realistic” things, but wanted to challenge myself. Sprig reminds me of late summer days with a sprig of lavender.

6. Eye

A sassy eye of Sauron because I love Lord of the Rings. Playing with different patterns and styles that I ended up really liking.

7. Crater

Don’t you hate when you wake up with a big zit? I imagine the moon feels the same whenever it gets a new crater.

8. Dream

This is my least favorite because it’s not sourced from joy and was really rushed. It symbolizes the depressing fact I may never be able to afford to own a home despite dreaming of it my whole life.

9. Blue

Here in the Pacific Northwest we have many days that people may call gray, but they’re actually filled with beautiful shades of blue. These days make me feel so cozy and at home.

10. Citrus

Coming back to cute critters and made these little citrus turtle looking buddies. Learned a lot about transparency levels to get some fun effects for the ice and glass.

11. Pencil

Reminiscing about all those days of doodling through school. Added my raindrop character for some fun and neat dimension.

12. Nest

Nothing’s better than those cozy days in bed with coffee, kitties, and videogames.

13. Ship

This is the beginning of my obsession with making glowing objects. I really like the whimsy of this one and looking back I wish I just made the shading on the boat a little less blocky.

14. Garden

More fun glowing nature. I wanted to make the water drop character look like they were watering the flowers. It kind of looks like they’re just spitting on them though, lol.

15. Weather

All the weather! It’s sunny and rainy with a lovely rainbow. Tried adding some cat ears to my raindrop character and change up the color.

16. Sidekick

A witch making a magical brew with the help of their frog sidekick adding some important ingredients. More glowing fun.

17. Blush

A waterdrop character using all natural ingredients to do their makeup for the day. If I had more than one day to work on this one I would have added more fun things to the desk with some extra background detail, but it’s cute!

18. Snooze

Water drop napping on a lillypad while being soothed to sleep by the humming of cattails rubbing together in the wind. I really like the ambiance of this one.

19. Candle

Water drop creeping around with a candle. Playing more with glows and contrast.

20. Bulb

A lovely flower with a bulb full of fireflies to illuminate the forest floor at night.

21. Slingshot

A water drop riding on a cloud on a stormy day and slingshotting raindrops down. I liked how playful this one was.

22. Tunnel

A curious fox tunneling underground. Maybe to find food or chase after some dinner. This was one of my favorites of the whole month.

23. Message

Everyone deserves to be told that they are loveable. This cutey frog wants to share that message with their handmade sign.

24. Wand

Our water drop wizard is showing off to a swarm of cute critters by making one of them light up like a star. This was another one of my favorites of the month.

25. Coral

A lovely piece of coral that is filled with curious eyes. I’m obsessed with cute critters so I had to include them even if they’re in the shadows. This is one I’d never think of on my own and was lots of fun to do!

26. Ladybug

Trying to hone in on my character style. I think some of the highlights are a little harsh, but it’s all a learning process! I love how motherly this ladybug feels.

27. Pond

Growing up I always loved being able to hear the frogs singing at night. I struggled with highlights and shading on the lilypads, but overall love this piece. It makes me really happy.

28. Chomp

All I could think about for chomp was the Mario character, so I went with Shyguy taking a Chomp for a walk in Super Mario land. This is a super cute piece of fan art.

29. Float

Keeping with the fan art I was inspired by Deku Link floating around with his pretty pink flowers. This one makes me super nostalgic and happy.

30. Moss

A big pivot in style! I was really trying to improve my textures and shading. This statue is based off of the one from the beginning of Spirited Away.

31. Spooky

The monster under your bed that can’t wait to grab your feet! A common eerie feeling. Also a departure from my normal style but really happy with how it turned out!

Conclusion

I firstly want to thank Furry Little Peach for curating this year’s prompts. Please check her out on Instagram, YouTube, or her website. She’s been a big inspiration to me for getting started as an artist and believing that I can make a living doing so.

I pushed myself to do everything in digital to help improve my skills, and am really thankful I did! I got much faster and comfortable with my flow. I learned some new things and expanded on skills I had already started. I played around with some textures which was really fun!

I had a goal of strengthening my “style” as well. I still think there’s lots of work to do that I can accomplish by continuing to push myself to try drawing a large variety of creatures and objects. But that’s one of the amazing things about art — you’re never done learning and exploring.

Thank you to everyone that supported me and followed my journey on Instagram. I can’t wait to see what next year’s art-tober looks like!
