Art-Tober 2022

October is often a challenge month for artists to make a piece of art every day. I first heard about it when “InkTober” became popular, and then lots of people created their own prompts. This year I split the prompts between InkTober and Peach-Tober. Peach-Tober is wonderfully whimsical artist that goes by Furry Little Peach that has been a big inspiration for me. All of my Art-Tober pieces are gouache paintings.

#2 - Scurry - InkTober

When I hear the word scurry I think of cute little mice. This buddy was able to quickly snag some cheese bait off a trap and scurry away without getting caught.

#4 - Tiger - PeachTober

This was one of my favorites for the month. I liked the background, and felt like I was getting the hang of shading with acrylic gouache.

#6 - Bouquet (Boo-quet) - InkTober

Since it was October I wanted to do one painting that felt Halloween theme. Here’s a fun bouquet of spooky goodies.

#8 - Potion - PeachTober

This time I wanted to try playing with adding glitter, and a magical potion seemed like the perfect prompt to try that. This one was really fun and magical to make!

#10 - Lantern - PeachTober

This one wasn’t my favorite, but that’s been a big learning curve for me with being an artist. Working through perfectionism and seeing the benefit of every time I put pen or brush to paper. Still a fun and colorful little piece!

#12 - Lava - PeachTober

I’m really happy with how the colors turned out for this one. The lava looks really bright and hot!

#14 - Empty - InkTober

I don’t paint humans very often, so I was pretty happy with how this turned out. I wish I had made the eyelashes a little longer and not so many of them, but it’s a neat concept.

#16 - Trunk - PeachTober

There’s a lot of directions to go with for trunk, and I went with a tree trunk. I liked the googly eyes I used in the cave painting, so I brought them back as a happy family making their home inside of the tree.

#18 - Wing - PeachTober

Lots of critters have wings, and I went with a dragonfly wing. This is the only piece I did some inking on combined with the gouache paints.

#20 - Spaceship - PeachTober

I really like the background for this one and wish I could have gotten a little more color variation in. I’m doing a painting every day though, so it was good practice at being happy with what I have time for.

#22 - Globe - PeachTober

I was trying to make a star globe inspired by snow globes. I wish I didn’t do quite so many stars as it makes it kind of hard to see the camper and their tent, but I’m still really happy with the concept and how it came out.

#24 - Fairy - InkTober

This is the pollination fairy that makes sure all the plants are happy! I was playing around with making a unique character and am very happy with how this buddy turned out.

#26 - Ego - InkTober

Sometimes we feel a lot bigger on the inside than we appear on the outside. This one was inspired by my own orange cat named Muggsy.

#28 - Plant - PeachTober

I wanted to make up a flower for this one and am pretty happy with how it came out. I like that it has little periwinkle wisps to go out and make more flowers.

#30 - Pet - PeachTober

Another fun creative exercise. This mushroom friend has a pet frog and they’re out for a walk together!

#1 - Cave - PeachTober

This was my very first time using acrylic gouache, so I was really getting used to how it works. I wanted to make a layered inward look inside of a cave, with lots of curious eyes peeping out.

#3 - Bat - InkTober

Still just getting used to acrylic gouache. I’m happy with this cute bat buddy.

#5 - Bow - PeachTober

Presents with big bouncy bows are what I think of when I hear the word bow. Got some good contrasting colors for this one. I wonder what’s inside!

#7 - Match - InkTober

Since it was October I wanted to do one painting that felt Halloween theme. Here’s a fun bouquet of spooky goodies.

#9 - Nest - InkTober

Blanket forts are the best kind of nest. Getting a big pile of pillows and blankets to snuggle in with soft lighting around. Perfect for reading or watching movies.

#11 - Eagle - InkTober

I feel like you can hear the eagle screech with this one. This was a bit reliant on a reference photo with less creative changes, but I still really like it.

#13 - Tail - PeachTober

I adore this little buddy that is so grumpy he got caught in a rain storm. Luckily his big bushy tail is helping to keep his head dry.

#15 - Armadillo - PeachTober

This little guy is so cute! I had a good reference photo to go off of, but I like the styling that came out with this one too.

#17 - Salty - InkTober

I love the big ol’ salt crystals on soft pretzels, so that was my inspiration for this one.

#19 - Ponytail - InkTober

I really felt like I got some good shading practice in with this one. It’s hard to photograph paintings the way I see them naturally, but it still looks good.

#21 - Bad Dog - InkTober

Definitely one of the grossest paintings I’ve ever done, but also endearing. This hot dog sure does look moldy and bad!

#23 - Sprout - PeachTober

I pretty quickly thought of Pikmin when I read the prompt was sprout. This little buddy is still safe in the ground and waiting to go on an adventure with friends!

#25 - Robot - PeachTober

Since I’m such a fan of the rain, I thought up a robot that makes sure all the flowers get enough rain during the hot months. This rain cloud robot is very happy to do its job.

#27 - Snack - InkTober

Kirby is always excited for a snack, and popcorn is one of my favorite snacks. So here’s Kirby inhaling some tasty popcorn.

#29 - Oops - InkTober

Another one inspired by cats. My cat can be a little jerk sometimes and knows to knock over glasses to get my attention. This also helped me learn that while most acrylic gouache is matte, the black still comes out pretty shiny and is extra hard to photograph.
